Schaum's Outline of Optics — Supplementary Problem Solutions ============================================================ This collection accompanies Eugene Hecht, *Schaum's Outline of Theory and Problems of Optics* (1975). It covers all 270 numbered **Supplementary Problems** in Chapters 1--8. The chapter ranges were checked against the scan: 1.31--1.64, 2.26--2.47, 3.31--3.50, 4.62--4.96, 5.48--5.86, 6.52--6.91, 7.52--7.105, and 8.22--8.47. These independently written solutions do not reproduce the original prompts. Each includes problem-specific working: assumptions and sign conventions, intermediate algebra, numerical substitutions or a completed proof, and a check. The 55 original SVG illustrations include ray diagrams, polarization trajectories, interference and diffraction curves, and Fourier/convolution constructions. Formulae use SI units unless another consistent system is stated. .. note:: A scan OCR error reads Problem 8.43 as ``8.48``. The printed page and sequence confirm that the convolution problem between 8.42 and 8.44 is 8.43. Where the printed data, endpoint, or approximation conflict, the solution explains the discrepancy and checks the result against the governing equations. In particular, distinguish exact fringe counts from width/spacing estimates, and graphical Cornu-spiral readings from numerical Fresnel-integral evaluation. Fourier transforms here use a negative forward exponential consistently; imaginary spectra consequently have the opposite sign to the book's positive forward-exponential convention. .. toctree:: :maxdepth: 1 ch01_wave_motion ch02_electromagnetic_waves_and_photons ch03_reflection_and_transmission ch04_geometrical_optics ch05_polarization ch06_interference_and_coherence ch07_diffraction ch08_introduction_to_fourier_optics The additional explanation below develops the construction in Solved Problem 8.21, from the two masks in Fig. 8-29 to Fig. 8-30. .. toctree:: :maxdepth: 1 :caption: Solved Problem Explanations problem_8_21_triangle_convolution
