Fundamentals of Photonics
This collection provides worked solutions for every boxed exercise and every end-of-chapter problem in Bahaa E. A. Saleh and Malvin Carl Teich, Fundamentals of Photonics, second edition. Prompts are paraphrased rather than reproduced. The inventory contains 131 in-text exercises and 314 end-of-chapter problems, for 445 worked items across all 24 chapters.
Numerical exercises retain the supplied values and show the governing equation, substitution, and result. Analytical and design questions show the decisive derivation or a reproducible construction. When a question asks for a graph or numerical experiment, the solution specifies the function, parameters, and check needed to reproduce it.
Each solution defines its local notation, names and links the mathematical identities it uses, shows numbered working where equations are involved, and ends with a verification. The shared formula catalogue is available here:
All 131 boxed in-text exercises use an illustrated step-by-step presentation and carry stable labels from Figure 1 through Figure 131. Exercise 1.1-1 has a fully labeled geometrical construction; the remaining 130 use a topic-specific SVG calculation map showing the inputs, physical model, output, variable legend, and independent check. Every symbol retained in a legend is also placed on the illustrated model. End-of-chapter problems retain the compact structured presentation.
